Sphinx
03:39
|

In the morning, in the morning, in the morning
I never saw for true
What the angels and the demons
And the ghosts inside me always said they’d do
When the dark, dark, dark of the blackest night I’ve known
Did the wretched sky turn
And I knew well the taste of that treacherous wind
For my sins were the songs that were blowin’
In the evening, in the evening, in the evening
I never felt so sure
Of the mad moon’s lonely gleam
Though she always seemed know all that lay in store
For the fearful, the foolish and the wicked man alike
And the righteous man too
So she whispers strange secrets in the ears of our eyes
That one day we would drink of the truth
In the daylight, in the sunlight, in the heat of high noon
You can hear me roar
Standing tall to greet the Lord
I sound my righteous horn so the world will know
That sins of our fathers will never be forgot
‘Til the debt that we owe
By the blood of the innocent spilled in the sand
Do we pay, lest our blessed souls one day be damned

Nightmares
02:34
|
|||
Lost amid the night’s dark waltz
Mine eyes and the moon did shine as one,
Breathed a beam of silver sky
As wild soft melodies spun.
Oh, the spaces were deep and throbbing
Alas, with the slow hearted chorus of the land.
Fast asleep, they were fast asleep
And the sorrowful rhythms of their dreams did I breathe.
For abounding was the sound within
The frozen wind howling in from the East.
And as Lady Winter’s blue dawn was broke,
Shed I a tear for the sleeping folk
Who tossed and turned and tossed and turned
In the desperate hour of which their dreaming rhythms spoke

Girl
03:44
|
|||
Who’s the girl with long blond hair
Smelling flowers over there?
I thought I knew her name
But had to ask her just the same
She turned to me and softly said
That all of the world inside my head,
Every day and dream is nameless drifting
Down a stream of consciousness, divine
What’s mine is yours and yours is mine…
And I wondered
What a thing to say, when all I asked was her name

Sacred
03:14
|
|||
Call a secret name and I’ll know
It shall be ours to keep
And as the breath of the morning builds
To match your own, you will know
We will know
All that is sacred shall remain so
In this perfect prayer
You know, the one that has always been
Whispering through the trees
As though it was spoken soft, cool and slow
From the sweet river to tell us so
Turn your unborn ear to the wind
And listen close to the dreams of a god
Who wants, more than all, to show
What sweet beauty lies deep within
Your perfect soul

Ode
05:42
|
|||
Upon the dawning of this Autumn day,
I opened up my eyes
To view the living world that would be mine
to roam in for awhile
Alas for through a stranger's weeping mind,
the sad and lonely moon
Did in my waking tears so softly shine
to dress my day in silver blue
I knew then all the nightmares of his life
I knew then that the end would be soon
And the demons of his life would
follow him into the gloom
Where they wouldn't have to wait for night to fall
before they made him feel the pain
And ever after all the evils of his life
he would know like his own name
And the shining of the lonely moon, he would remember
with every tortured breath he takes
I breathed his sadness on the wind this morn,
his soul fading away
To whispers in the twilight evermore
of the price eternal he is doomed to pay
So now, to you sing I this solemn ode
whose name I'll never know
Alas, these darkest storms of Earthly life,
that you must take your own
I wish you could have lived to see this day
But I know what you'd say:
"It's just like the one before,
and the morning sun beating down upon my face
is such relentless pain
and I don't even care if I ever have to feel
it's cursed warmth again.
What difference would it ever make to you
if I stay or if I go?
You know I don't belong, you know I don't belong
I can't help the way I am"

Man As Me
04:21
|
|||
Tell me, tell me true
Before "me", who were "you?"
When the Earth was new
Baby, baby blue
Before me, tell me, who were you?
When the Earth was new
Baby, baby, baby blue
Before me, who were you?
You’ll ask me so I’ll answer "you"...
Alas for the long-past tender year
That haunting, breeds your tenderest fear
And the ghastly silent storms will rage
Ravaging sweetly your mind all away
And the crazy black fear creeps out in the day
Churning the ocean of man, in a way….
I’ll ask "you" once again
Are we gods or men?
Upon my Earthly end
Will I come and live again?
Or will I watch the cosmos bend?
Upon my Earthly end, I’ll ask you once again
Will I watch the cosmos bend?
Or will I come and live again
To suffer with all my Earthbound friends?

Double Deed
03:40
|
|||
words by Anonymous
There was a man of double deed,
Who sowed his garden full of seed;
When the seed began to grow,
'Twas like a garden full of snow;
When the snow began to melt,
'Twas like a ship without a belt;
When the ship began to sail,
'Twas like a bird without a tail;
When the bird began to fly,
'Twas like an eagle in the sky;
When the sky began to roar,
'Twas like a lion at my door;
When my door began to crack,
'Twas like a stick across my back;
When my back began to smart,
'Twas like a penknife in my heart;
And when my heart began to bleed,
'Twas death, and death, and death indeed.

A Life
04:51
|
|||
when the morning came barreling in
I heard a name, a breath on the wind
I tasted a lifetime of years locked within
all good deeds and sins from far and away
did dance upon the rising sun’s rays
calling to wake all the dreams of the day
every ebb and flow, every storm that blows
was hiding inside the Earth’s gentle moan
only to surface and finally show
where the time does go as it flashes slow
before our eyes as we live, so we die
from first, we see the light
until every day that goes by seems but a breath
and a grand design, “Amazing Grace”
begins to form in our minds
amazing grace
as the sun goes down to sleep in the sea
with a deep crimson yawn and a song just for me
I wonder, come nightfall, what then shall I be?
all I know is this:
as a golden braid, the world that has made us
and world we have made are woven together
like chaos and fate
and I wonder if my name will ever blow in the wind
someday in the future and echo within
the soul of another and live once again
